ARTIST

I am inspired by natural imagery to create work that is beautiful and timeless; that is both familiar and mysterious at the same time; that evokes imagination, passion, and awe.  Through my art, I seek to uncover the deepest emotions in people and their interaction with the natural environment.

I studied art in college, and after a career in finance, I returned to my passion, sculpture.  I have worked in clay, wire mesh, bronze, and most recently, encaustic paint and paper sculpture.  Encaustic painting is an ancient Greek method that uses natural beeswaxes and damar resin.  The resin hardens the cooled wax and gives it a characteristic smooth, hard finish.  I paint on wood panels and include paper sculpture elements for added texture and depth.  My work has been exhibited in galleries and private collections in Westchester, Fairfield, and New York City. I am currently pursuing an MA in Art Therapy degree at New York University and working with adolescents and children.  Exhibitions and Publications list below.

Author Frank Matheis captures the essence of my art in his recent essay for the Hammond Museum – “Tambe’s works are reminiscent of mandalas, as much as they are physical – botanical and floral. Or, sea anemone marine creatures; or an exploding star in the vastness of the universe. Her abstract works are portals into your own boundlessly infinite imagination. Her informed aesthetic consciousness expresses pure joy.”
